Haris Malik

SWE @ Tesla · prev. K-Scale (YC W24), Dayforce, TD · Pearson Scholar, U of T

Founder and software engineer. I started a social network that gets students to meet in person instead of scrolling, taught humanoid robots to see and hold a conversation, and write embedded software for Tesla's grid-scale batteries.

Now building Vexo — the first health ring that listens. See the ring

01Work

Work

  1. Vexo

Founder — building the first health ring that listens: a smart ring with a microphone. Tap it and speak to log meals, workouts, meds, and moods against your vitals. Local-first; your data lives on your phone.

  2. Tesla

Embedded Linux applications for Tesla's EnergyOS Megapack platform: connectivity management, self-tests, production tooling, and hardware-in-the-loop test infrastructure.

  3. K-Scale Labs YC W24

    • Vision-based depth estimation: YOLOv11 with a pinhole camera model, 12 cm median error at 4 m.
    • Real-time SAM2 segmentation at 8–10 FPS.
    • Voice interaction loop at 180 ms via token streaming — Whisper → GPT-4 → ElevenLabs.
  4. Dayforce

Performance engineering on core APIs — C# and Kafka.

  5. TD

    Backend and frontend engineering.

Research

Co-author, “Improving Synthesizability Prediction of TiZrNb-Based High Entropy Alloys using Bayesian Model and Advanced Input Feature Analysis.” Poster at MRS Fall 2024. Bayesian optimization, NSGA-II, positive-unlabeled learning.

Projects

Offline

Previous startup · 2025

A proximity social network to help students meet in person. Shipped to the App Store; content marketing did hundreds of thousands of views and 2,000 installs. It taught me that retention beats virality.

Knight

Co-founder · Autonomous drone safety escort

An autonomous drone that follows people walking alone at night — computer vision and path planning, with live video and location streamed to trusted contacts. A mobile eye in the sky.

SafeSpot

Fall detection for seniors

Camera-based fall detection: ordinary phones and IP cameras plus computer vision detect falls and alert caregivers in seconds. Won awards at uOttaHack, U of T Shark Tank, and the U of T Pitch Competition.

Russel HomeBot

TreeHacks 2025

An autonomous home robot on a Jetson Orin Nano: voice commands, depth-camera navigation on ROS2, stair-climbing whegs, and item fetching.

Wild Knight

EPFL · 2024

An autonomous drone delivering first-aid supplies to hikers in the Swiss mountains.

Hand exoskeleton for piano training

EPFL · 2024

A 3D-printed, servo-actuated hand exoskeleton that drives each finger at programmable tempos — web app, Flask backend, and a MIDI interpreter.
